The EP route to PR, explained

The PTS scheme is the most common route to Singapore PR for working professionals. As an EP holder you apply on your own behalf, without a sponsor, and you can include your spouse and unmarried children below 21 in the same application. ICA reviews your entire profile rather than any single number, which is why two applicants with the same salary can receive different outcomes.

Factors to review in an EP holder's application

ICA publishes broad considerations but not their weighting. The observations below are our consultancy's interpretation and do not predict approval.

• Length and stability of local employment. A consistent work history in Singapore, ideally with the same employer or logical career progression, signals stability.
• Income trajectory. Rising income over time supports the case that your contribution to Singapore is growing.
• Qualifications and role. Recognised qualifications and a role that matches your training strengthen the economic contribution story.
• Family ties and profile. A spouse or children in Singapore, especially studying in local schools, supports integration.
• Community involvement. Genuine, sustained involvement in Singapore life adds credible evidence of commitment.
• Application quality. Complete, consistent required documents help ICA assess the information provided. A cover letter is an optional presentation tool, not an ICA requirement.

Common mistakes EP holders make

• Applying within months of arriving, before there is any meaningful local track record.
• Submitting inconsistent employment or income information across forms and documents.
• Leaving out documents that explain career gaps, job changes, or overseas history.
• Writing a generic cover letter that does not explain their commitment to Singapore.
• Reapplying immediately after a rejection without changing anything in the profile.
