In short: Singapore PRs aged 21 and above can apply for citizenship after holding PR status for at least 2 years, through the ICA e-Service. ICA states that applications are processed within 12 months. Singapore does not recognise dual citizenship for adults, so successful applicants must renounce their foreign citizenships. Approval is decided solely by ICA based on the whole profile.
Who can apply for Singapore citizenship
- PRs aged 21 and above who have held PR status for at least 2 years. You can apply together with your PR spouse and unmarried children below 21.
- PRs who have been a PR for at least 2 years and married to a Singapore citizen for at least 2 years, sponsored by the citizen spouse.
- Unmarried children below 21 of Singapore citizens.
- PR students who have lived in Singapore for more than 3 years, at least 1 year as a PR, and passed a national exam or are in the Integrated Programme.
- Aged PR parents of adult Singapore citizens.

Things to consider before applying
- Renouncing your current citizenship. Singapore does not allow dual citizenship for adults. This affects property, inheritance, and travel arrangements in your home country and deserves careful thought.
- National Service. Male applicants and sons included in applications may have National Service obligations. Understand these fully before applying.
- Timing. Two years as a PR is the minimum, not a target. A longer, more settled record in Singapore often presents a stronger case.
- Whole-family planning. Applying as a family shows commitment but also means ICA assesses everyone's profile together.
